“Oasis in the Desert.” – BLK Burgrz, Ladera Ranch

Found in the hellhole of Orange County suburbia (aka Ladera Ranch), we find BLK Burgrz.

We all know that I do burger reviews, not restaurant reviews… But occasionally, I stumble upon a location, that is just too good to not share with you all. Better pump-fake, because this was most definitely one of these times…

Welcome to BLK Burgrz (Pronounced “Block Burgers”):

(Top: Inside; Bottom: Outside)

American pub on the inside, and Los Angeles Sports Bar on the outside, BLK Burgrz is a burger joint not to be trifled with. As soon as I had walked outside, I was wide-eyed; It possessed a “day-club” meets “sports bar” design, while exuding a atmosphere full of energy. Plus with plenty of seating, you’re able to gather 20 of your friends, kick back with a burger and brew, and catch a Lakers game with ease.

And as I sit here contemplating what having 20 friends must be like, along with wondering what next year will bring for my Lakers, my mind drifts to what’s truly important to me…

What my heart, sincerely desires…

My precious.

The burger.

Menu Name: BLK’s Deep-Fried Signature Burger –$17.00

  • Kobe Beef – Deep-fried Patty
  • Smoked Gouda
  • Caramelized Onions
  • Arugula
  • Fried Egg
  • Sauteed Mushrooms
  • Crispy Bacon
  • Onion Strings
  • Garlic Aioli
  • Brioche Bun

I see you staring at that price… “$17.00… Man…”

Before we even get to that, let me first start off by telling you this is a B.Y.O.B. (Build Your Own Burger) joint. And if you’re a consistent reader, you’ll know that I’m not the largest fan of this style of burger joint. As I’ve said previously, my critiques were that 1) If they don’t have pre-styled burgers, I have to select the items and it makes it less entertaining to judge/review, and 2) The selection of ingredients is typically small and lacking in diversity.

Well ladies and gents, listen to me very closely: You are allowed to use as many of the toppings on the list as you want, as long as you don’t double-up a topping, for no extra charge!

And guess what? The toppings list consists of 30, yes I said, 30 different options!

Notice I have 8 different toppings just on this one burger alone! This is unparalleled in Orange County, and sits high above the likes of The Counter and Slater’s 50/50! Thus, I name my burger: The Dom.

I think about this place, the same way I think about getting all-you-can-eat-sushi… Although it’s expensive, I should be receiving a fantastically-diverse meal, with ingredients of superior quality, and will most definitely be full after.

Now that we know that, let’s get on with the flavor of this beast at hand…

And I take the first bite: Osh-my-guud-I-csant-schtop-schooing-iz-so-guud!

The flavor combination is amazing… The garlic aioli is just fantastically portioned to the rest of the burger and guides you through the whole bite. The deep-fried patty paired with the bacon present a wonderfully crunchy texture and a sweetness in flavor.

The egg was especially decadent; And with it’s positioning directly on top of the arugula, made for a perfect collaboration of the rich and fresh flavors.

The mushrooms and fried onion strings always provide for a splendid mixture, adding that heartiness in flavor, and texture, that I dig so much. That feeling of smashing your teeth together and really taking a full bite never gets old!

The beef was great. And just incase your eyes skimmed over it the first 3 times it was mentioned, this burger patty was deep-fried! Ugh, finally I can order this at a joint! And it proved to be recognizably delicious, of course.

One word to describe this burger: Sustainability.

With the 8 options on this particular burger, it never got boring. Throughout the entire burger, the sweet and hearty flavors thrived while my mouth was left wanting more and more. Luckily, I had some fries next to me as a distraction.

Seasoned with garlic, these fries were good, and the portion size was sufficient. If you’re a fry connoisseur, beware that these weren’t abnormally fantastic. Just good, well-fried, soft but crunchy, fries.

Now before I leave you, I want to say that the manager Becca was awesome to work with and sufficiently answered any of the crazy questions I asked. Really completed the experience.

So next time there’s a big sporting event, whether it’s basketball, football, or golf, make sure to come by here with a large group of friends and I promise —  You’re sure to have a great time!

Until our next encounter, I leave you with the glorious tree in the center of the patio… Which I obviously had to sit next to. It just felt like I was eating a burger in the Woodland Realm.

Therefore, flying in at #9 on THE Burger List, and #4 on $10 & Over List, The BLK Deep-Fried Signature Burger by BLK Burgrz, Ladera Ranch.
